Who Said It?

Who Said It?

  • All of us, from time to time, need a plunge into freedom and novelty, after which routine and discipline will seem delightful by contrast.
  • Modesty and unselfishness – these are the virtues which men praise – and pass by.
  • Business is a combination of war and sport.
  • In literature as in love, we are astonished at what is chosen by others.
  • Old age is far more than white hair, wrinkles, the feeling that it is too late and the game finished, that the stage belongs to the rising generations. The true evil is not the weakening of the body, but the indifference of the soul.
  • A marriage without conflicts is almost as inconceivable as a nation without crises.

André Maurois, born Emile Salomon Wilhelm Herzog (July 26, 1885 – October 9, 1967) was a French author and man of letters.

A. Maurois is one of my top 3 favorite writers, so I wanted to share more than just one quote.

His books in English are hard to find. Alibris is the best source for rare books, but there’s still a few available at Amazon. Read “Family Circle” if you can find it. “Climats” is also very good.
