I think what they did is right. It sucks that the government had to bail out a private company and fix the company’s mistakes.

But if you bankrupt them, who will you really punish? The executives who made these bad decisions? No, lots of innocent people would be punished.

The executives won’t learn a lesson here, unless you send them to jail.

So think of this as paying off the ransom in order to stay alive. Very much worth it, though you despise the criminal at least you’re alive.

Maybe it’s a bad analogy. Everybody talks about this “flush” we need. Maybe.
