Are stereotypes ever true? Good point. Depends on how they're used, I guess. The best definition of the word I've found comes from dictionary.com:

A generalization, usually exaggerated or oversimplified and often offensive, that is used to describe or distinguish a group.

Stereotypical labels do not originate from thin air - some may have an element of authenticity. After all a statement like "All financial advisers are nincompoops" would be ridiculous.

But to say that the hot dog is the stereotypical meal of choice at an American baseball game could hardly be argued.

That said, if a person would state, "All women know little about money," well that's just plain ignorant.

Are stereotypes ever true?

I'll be the first one to admit that I didn't enjoy talking about money face to face to clients at first. But then I don't know whether I was a product of stereotyping or really just uncomfortable.

Thanks for the cheer :)

It's unfortunate that some people would try to take advantage of a perceived weakness in women, for example, talking about money. It makes it even harder to work to overcome such stereotypes, specially when they're untrue.

As we say in the US, "You GO, Girl!"
