Position Updates
Going into the long weekend here in Canada, I want to summarize (mainly for myself) what’s going on with our stocks:
FCO.TO – Formation Capital
Long term hold
CML.V – Crowflight Minerals
Long term hold
BN.V – Blue Note Mining
Long term hold and trade to bring down ACB
SLW.TO – Silver Wheaton
50% long term hold, 50% trade in and out
PBX.V – PBX International
This one’s not going anywhere for a few years, will sell the remaining 50%
PWT.UN.TO – PennWest Trust
Have been in and out a few times. This time holding a small position for a longer term. 12% distribution is nice, 9% after taxes.
[[FSLR]] – First Solar
Still shorting. I don’t hate solar energy, though I do think this is just ugly and a waste of land. It’s just that I believe FSLR’s valuation is very much out of whack at the moment.
Isn’t solar energy ugly only if you’re in an airplane?
It didn’t look very hot from the train either (as we saw it, anyway).
You don’t think it’s a waste of land? I’m all for using the Sun’s energy but they should continue looking for a more efficient way of doing it.
As I’m taking a personal interest in what Germany is doing, I shudder thinking of how they waste their very limited land resources like that. They have a lot less land, than for example the U.S. so I’m surprised they adoped this as quickly as they did.
Can’t be much worse than the windmill farms of California: http://www.terragalleria.com/images/us-ca/usca9769.jpeg. They looked bad from any angle.
Try that without the trailing period to see the image.
There’s a lot of wind mills in Germany, as well. They look slightly different though, hm.
So far, wind mills are more efficient than solar, at about half the cost. I’m more pro Solar than pro Wind, but I don’t think they have to rush into uglifying the landscape and spending so much taxpayer money on stuff that’s toxic and needs a lot of improvement.
I bet five buck they’ll end up having to remove or replace these panels in a few years.
