In my 11 years in Canada I’ve noticed that specialization is rewarded much more than multiple skills. Professionally speaking, you have to pick one and stick with it.

Doesn’t mean you can’t do the other stuff, just don’t advertise it 🙂

Self-sufficiency is important. Even if you’re a nuclear physicist working in a lab, you should have a basic set of survival skills. Just in case.
