Fidelity’s Danoff

Ignoring the last name similarity to Madoff, I wanted to see how well this much-advertised fund did. It’s called Fidelity Contrafund (FCNTX) and for the past 2 years it’s been all over billboards in Toronto, with this man highlighted as the genius behind the fund’s success. Here are some charts comparing FCNTX to S&P 500. Below, red – FCNTX, black – $SPX, past 5 years My takeaway is that the entry point is very important and results aren’t guaranteed (when are they ever?). The assumption is – probably – that if you started investing 5 years ago, you can afford to stay in the market for 20+ years and then you’re likely, likely to come out on top.
